Italy makes an unexpected move: it is withdrawing its military support for Ukraine

Italy is leaving the PURL program, through which NATO countries jointly purchase American weapons for Kyiv’s needs.

Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said that negotiations on a possible peace deal are now underway, and Rome “prefers to focus on diplomacy.”

A day earlier it became known that under this program Poland, Germany, and Norway are purchasing $500 million worth of Patriot missiles for Ukraine.

According to Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, Poland’s share amounts to $100 million.

This is money Poland had planned to contribute to the European Peace Facility — but Hungary blocked the funds there.
