Ottawa’s multi‑year plan to cut roughly 40,000 public
Ottawa is conducting a “comprehensive expenditure review” aimed at cutting:
- $60 billion in program and admin spending over 5 years
- 40,000 public service jobs (from a peak of 368,000 in 2023–24)
- 1,000 executive positions over 2 years
- 20% reduction in consulting/management spending over 3 years
About 10,000 jobs have already been eliminated
