How Conservatives Manipulate Canadians (Roman Baber Example)

Post by Dr Strangelove »

The Credit Card Claim: The video challenges the narrative that 50% of Canadians using credit cards for groceries is a sign of total financial collapse. The creator explains that many use credit cards for rewards and security, arguing that the statistic is used out of context to manufacture fear
The Gas Tax Argument: The video critiques the call to cut federal gas taxes as a solution to affordability. The creator points out that Canadian gas prices are primarily driven by global oil markets, not federal taxes, and that such cuts would likely be ineffective while stripping funding from vital infrastructure and services
Foreign Aid Comparison: The creator dismantles the argument that choosing between foreign aid and domestic tax relief is a binary choice. They explain that government budgets are not zero-sum in this way, and that foreign aid serves purposes like international stability and strategic relationship building
Broader Conclusion:
The creator contends that this communication style starts with a genuine problem (like high grocery prices) to build trust, then redirects public frustration toward misleading scapegoats. This strategy is described as a deliberate attempt to keep people angry and misinformed rather than providing substantive policy solutions for Canada's actual challenges

^^ nailed it. I detest cons for this reason. It's been baked in for generations now. There was a time where you could at least have a conversation with the cons on policy but that died a long time ago and they have woven this entire reality that is unmoored to truth. They then use that as a cudgel to beat down dissent. It is a plowshare forged by ignorance compounded and bound together by emotion and greed. A bitter harvest.
It can be dangerous to believe things just because you want them to be true. - Sagan
