Carney: We are a country of extraordinary diversity, a people of many backgrounds, languages and ways of seeing the world. The foundational concept of Canada is simple: unity does not mean uniformity. Our nation was forged through accommodation, not assimilation, and through partnership, not domination.

Carney: Canada is already the third largest exporter of music on the planet ... we're about to get bigger, because I'm pleased to announce that Canada will be joining the next Eurovision Song Competition. Yes, finally, enfin! They don't know what's coming!

110 years ago today, more than 800 Newfoundlanders went into battle at Beaumont-Hamel. More than 700 were killed, wounded, or went missing in a single day. Despite their horrific losses, the Newfoundland Regiment fought in World War I until 1918.

Today, as we celebrate the greatest country on Earth, we remember all those who served and sacrificed so that we could live in freedom and peace.

The Contrast of Nations: The creator argues that the U.S. has traded its soul for corporate convenience and partisan division (2:04 - 2:38), whereas Canada demonstrates a growing, grounded unity and an authentic engagement with its own history (3:01 - 3:36).
Strength Through Truth: He praises Canada's cultural maturity in acknowledging First Nations and indigenous history, describing it as a "strength through truth" that is missing in American discourse (3:46 - 4:10).

The transition from Dominion Day to Canada Day (5:24 - 6:38).

I noticed that as of today we've lost another Canadian Forum.
The former MapleLeafWeb, running as repolitics.com has ceased operations. They tried to do similar to this forum and changed names to attract users from elsewhere but had degenerated into mindless name calling, thinly disguised racism and MAGA rants.
Pity!
Some of the users from there are welcome to join Politalk.ca as well as canadaka.net (which seems to be under constant attacks and server problems). If they send a message through the Contact page of this site indicating the name ans date they signed up as well as their former username on the other site, I may promote them to regular users at my discretion, when I have time.

Have great Canada Day.
we're in Fire Season so we'll miss the fireworks tonight
