That's capitalism baby! Robber barons, er I mean captains of industry, can't turn the economy on a dime. Unless your the one they can squeeze the dime out of.

It would be nice if they could admit all they're doing is deny us cheaper Chinese EVs.
It merely allows the Big 3 to doddle and raise prices and profits and deny consumers even more choice.
They're gonna lobby against Japan & Korea next. To sell us Dodge Hornets for 50% more than anything comparable from there.

Returned from the Lower Mainland where I looked for PHEVs.
Nobody had one. Oh there were a couple used ones tagged for more than they originally sold for, excuses galore and saw one I wasn't interested in tagged WAY OVER MSRP.
So we need tariffs to protect N American makers from what they can't deliver?
The dealer here still has 2 EV Hummers in stock that are priced and weigh so much only the military would consider buying one.... as 'proof' no one's buying EVs and why they have no others in stock.

Hundai apparently can write their own price on the Ionic because it's in such high demand.
Which is a great excuse to not build many. Which is why BYD and the others are going to roll them over based on volume.

Rivian just opened a new factory to produce the 100,000 new Vans ordered by Amazon. And the R2 versions of their platform.
It's not that manufacturers aren't making cars, it's that they can't produce batteries fast enough. Even Tesla is at the mercy of CATL in China for their cars. That's why I agree with Sabine Hossenfelter that the best transition option is Hybrid.
