Re: Pierre Poilievre Is Lying To Your Face
Pierre Poilievre claimed that the Liberals "withheld 50 percent of severance" from the 1,200 GM CAMI workers.
Here are the facts.
The CRA requires employers to withhold income tax on any lump‑sum severance. This applies to every worker in Canada. It's not a CAMI‑specific clawback and not a special policy created for these layoffs.
Below are links to credible fact-sources for study. I'd look through them before putting together your own rebuttal(s).
These sources outline the standard withholding brackets used nationwide: 10 percent, 20 percent, 30 percent depending on the size of the payout.
The "over 50 percent" number is a political claim, not a CRA rate. The deductions follow the same federal tax rules every employer uses.
Facts matter.

Mmm hmm.
Just like they withold most of your banked overtime if you cash it out all at once.
So they can probably get a tax refund later when they DO need it, instead of blowing it now and being in debt to the CRA later?
Conservative MPs that don't even know how income tax works? I'm even less impressed with their party.

A House of Commons–paid staffer emailing influencers coordinated partisan talking points for a Conservative convention. @MicahGreen01
That’s not “engagement.”
That’s using taxpayer resources for party messaging.
Not allowed. Not ethical. Not debatable.
When a publicly funded comms manager distributes campaign messaging + talking points to influencers, that’s a clear misuse of House of Commons resources. @CPC_HQ
