K'omoks First Nation chief pushes back on Poilievre's opposition to treaty

What Poilievre said
Speaking in West Vancouver, Pierre Poilievre announced that he and Conservative MPs will vote against federal ratification of the K’ómoks Treaty.
He claimed the agreement:

“Fails to explicitly and clearly protect property rights”

Should be put on hold

Could create “uncertainty” because it references Canada’s UNDRIP legislation (the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act)

Parliament is expected to vote on the treaty next year.

🧑‍⚖️ How the K’ómoks Chief responded
Chief Coun. Nicole Rempel strongly rejected Poilievre’s characterization:

She said his description of the treaty is “not accurate.”

She argued he did not read the treaty in full, relying instead on talking points.

She emphasized the treaty does not involve private property, except land the Nation has already purchased.

She accused Poilievre of “feeding the fear and racism” around reconciliation for political gain.

Rempel also said K’ómoks is disappointed Poilievre made these claims without reaching out to the Nation.

🏛️ Federal government response
Crown–Indigenous Relations Minister Rebecca Alty’s office said Poilievre’s claims are a misrepresentation, stating:

Modern treaties are designed to increase legal clarity and certainty, not reduce it.

Negotiated agreements protect property rights while advancing reconciliation.

📍 Context: What the treaty actually does
The K’ómoks Treaty:

Passed the B.C. Legislature in spring 2026

Grants K’ómoks self‑government, land ownership, and financial components

Is the result of 30+ years of negotiations

Is now awaiting federal ratification next year

It is considered a major milestone in B.C.’s modern treaty process.

Polling Trends: Recent polls from Abacus Data, Nanos Research, Leon Strategies, and Angus Reed suggest that the Liberal Party maintains a lead over the Conservative Party, which would translate to a potential Liberal majority in an election (0:14 - 0:54).
Top Issues: The cost of living is identified as the primary concern for Canadians across all age groups, exacerbated by global economic factors (0:57 - 1:28).
Political Favorability: While Prime Minister Mark Carney maintains a relatively high approval rating (55%), there is a growing sentiment that the country is on the "wrong track" (1:30 - 2:00). Conversely, opposition leader Pierre Poilievre faces record-high unfavorability ratings of 60% (2:12 - 3:20).
Conservative Strategy: The video argues that the Conservative Party is pivoting to an AI-driven strategy to bypass Poilievre's unpopularity. They are using AI-generated content to depict "real" Canadians facing economic hardship, a move the creator labels as a dangerous new era of political propaganda (4:05 - 6:38).
Alberta Separation: The video touches on the topic of Alberta separatism, noting that Prime Minister Mark Carney is viewed more favorably than Pierre Poilievre or Daniel Smith regarding this issue. Smith is heavily criticized for her associations with groups advocating for Canada's annexation (6:47 - 8:43).
Conclusion: The creator expresses concern that the use of unregulated AI to create misleading political advertisements could fundamentally alter future election cycles, forcing voters to make decisions based on "artificial" rather than real information (9:15 - 10:44).

The 30% that is LOCKED in for pp after all this time has become a tumor on Canada and would rather support a foil for separatists than support an actual loyal opposition in Canada. It is a political dead end and the shit blossom is pp and Smith.

Elected Officials and Separatism (25:26 - 35:09): The panel addresses the controversial topic of federal or provincial politicians openly supporting the separation of their region from Canada. James Moore expresses disappointment in former colleagues who hold these views (26:07), while Gerald Butts notes that while people are free to speak, there are consequences for such stances, and it ultimately reflects on leadership quality (30:34).

Hypocrisy on Infrastructure: While the ad complains about a lack of progress on projects like high-speed rail, the host points out that Poilievre has explicitly called for the cancellation of the high-speed rail project between Toronto and Quebec City (3:00-3:36).
Housing Record: The host highlights Poilievre's history regarding housing, including reports that he barred Conservative MPs from promoting a federal housing fund and his past actions as a minister under Stephen Harper, which included the sell-off of affordable rental units (4:04-5:24).
The 'Build Canada' Group: The video explains that 'Build Canada' is a group formed by tech CEOs to lobby the government. The host criticizes their policy proposals—which include significant public sector layoffs, tax deductions for AI subscriptions, and massive government 'super deductions' for AI expenditures—as handouts that prioritize private AI corporations over public services (5:25-9:27).
Cross-Party Influence: The host concludes that this pro-corporate, pro-privatization agenda is not limited to the Conservative Party, noting that even Liberal figures like Mark Carney have engaged with these tech interests, suggesting a shared approach to economics between the two major parties (9:28-10:39).

PP says he wants to save the money from high speed rail and instead remove the GST from used car sales.
HOW ASS BACKWARDS CAN THIS MORON BE?
As ii we;re all in the market for used vehicles. Not NEW ones that get better milage, pollute less and employ people building them, To boost sales for used car dealers, the really important people in his pea sized mind. His buddies, the very type of scummy self serving people who's donate to him to improve their sales.

Rather than build something, he wants to wreck another part of the economy while lying that he'd be doing something positive.
The guy lies 2nd only to Trump himself.

Soudas: You have one MP running a COVID-19 inquiry. You have another running a petition to cancel Heritage Month. You have another retweeting stuff about Ghislaine Maxwell and trying to link it to Mark Carney ... Do you want to sit on the government side of the House, hold power, make decisions, or clicks, likes and retweets is how we define victories?

Canada’s Nuclear Strategy (0:05 - 1:15): The Energy Minister announced a plan for a "nuclear renaissance" to build up to 10 nuclear reactors by 2040. This includes initiating construction on two large-scale reactors by 2035 and deploying a Canadian-made micro-reactor to a remote community by the late 2030s to meet growing electricity demands from data centers and electric vehicles.
Global Energy Context (1:34 - 3:50): The creator contrasts Canada's current nuclear capacity (15% of electricity) with other nations like France, which relies heavily on nuclear power (65-70%) to maintain low-cost, low-carbon energy. China is also highlighted for its rapid deployment of wind, solar, and renewable energy to decouple its economy from fossil fuels.
Political Opposition and Analysis (4:23 - 8:36): The video critiques the opposition of Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre to the federal nuclear plan and criticizes the government of Alberta and Premier Danielle Smith for implementing policies that discourage renewable energy, such as high recycling fees on solar panels, while favoring natural gas development.
Technological Progress (9:20 - 10:33): Despite political friction, the video notes advancements in electric vehicle infrastructure, such as BYD's megawatt flash-charging technology being introduced in Quebec for freight trucks.
Conclusion: The creator advocates for a unified national strategy that integrates nuclear, hydro, wind, and solar energy to build a robust, country-wide electricity grid, arguing that current provincial resistance to renewables is economically and environmentally regressive.
