Institutional Differences: Unlike the United States, where Trump could capture one of the two dominant parties, Canada’s conservative movement is a complex coalition of competing traditions—including fiscal, social, and western populist factions—that require broad negotiation rather than ideological purity (3:31-6:12).
National Identity: Canada defined itself in part by contrasting its public institutions (like Medicare and multiculturalism) with those of its southern neighbor. Consequently, criticizing these institutions often felt like an attack on Canadian identity itself (9:26-10:29).
Trust in Institutions: While public trust in politicians has declined in Canada, there remains a stronger baseline of trust in non-political institutions (the courts, civil service) compared to the United States (10:30-11:29).
Media and Religion: Canada has a lower rate of religious commitment and a media landscape influenced by public broadcasting, which prevented the formation of the same closed-loop ecosystem (combining media, religion, and politics) that fueled MAGA in the U.S. (12:16-13:45).
Conclusion:
The video argues that Canada avoided a MAGA moment not because its people are inherently different, but because its institutions and political systems prioritize coalition-building over polarization (14:08-14:35). However, the creator notes that these "firewalls" are weakening as Canadians increasingly consume the same digital media and engage with the same global political trends as Americans (15:17-15:59).

The convoy crowd are the battering ram used to take distrust and smash institutions. Weaknesses being addressed are being exploited as a means of attack to divide. The convoy crowd have made themselves so repugnant to the vast majority of decent Canadians by their overbearing tactics.

Forgot to mention that although we have our share stupid people here there are not nearly as many that fall for propaganda lies and willing to blindly follow a populist leader.
Justin swept in with charisma, a positive vision and great promises, and Carney's victory showed people wanted some financial leadership but were not angry about gains in benefits, definitely not interested in giving up child care, pharmacare and dental. We're not Americans, confortable seeing an entire industry's workforce begging on Facebook to tip them more so their employers don't have to pay them, like winos chanting 'gotta dollah' outside the Beer Store. Naive enough to think you can reduce the deficit by cutting taxes while knowing cutting your salary doesn't apy your mortgage down st all.

PP can bitch and moan all he wants but we just watched his bum buddies down south "drain the swamp" so only the scum remained.
