We need more icebreakers.

Perhaps if Russia breaks up, there may be some nuke powered ones that magically disappear.

Boosting Domestic Manufacturing: The project aims to bring rail car manufacturing back to Canada, specifically in Ontario and Quebec, to reduce reliance on the United States (1:22 - 2:03).
Historic Investment: This is being described as the largest federal investment in Via Rail's history (2:25 - 2:30).
Timeline: The first of the new, modern rail cars are expected to hit the tracks by 2031, with the full fleet operational by 2035 (2:33 - 2:42).
Context of Trade Tensions: The move comes amid an ongoing trade dispute with the U.S., following Carney's decision to walk away from a proposed trade deal (2:56 - 3:20).
Economic Impact:

Industry experts, such as Francis Puo from Quebec Manufacturers and Exporters, suggest that this initiative is a welcome step for supporting local manufacturers who have been hit hard by recent tariffs (6:41 - 7:44).
The project is expected to create approximately 700 jobs across Ontario and Quebec (7:02 - 7:07).

Logistical Independence (5:15 - 5:50): The development of the $750 million CANXPORT facility in Prince Rupert, which provides a deep-water harbor for direct trade with Asia, allowing Canada to bypass congested U.S. West Coast ports.
Northern Security (5:52 - 6:26): An $11.3 billion investment in a new fleet of heavy icebreakers to secure the Northwest Passage as it becomes an increasingly critical global shipping route.
Onshoring Manufacturing (6:39 - 7:52): A $4.7 billion investment to manufacture and maintain 313 new passenger rail cars for VIA Rail at the Alstom facility in Thunder Bay, bringing industrial jobs back to Canada instead of outsourcing them to the U.S.
The host frames these initiatives as a "masterclass" in nation-building, contrasting them with what he describes as the "infrastructural decay" and "tariff obsession" of the Trump administration (2:36 - 3:13). He concludes that Canada is effectively decoupling from the U.S. to secure its own future, positioning itself as a stable leader in an uncertain global climate (8:40 - 9:32).
