The NDP may be in even bigger trouble than we think

Post by Dr Strangelove »

Most people think the NDP’s 2025 election disaster ended on election night. It didn’t. The real fallout is still coming, and it could cripple the party for good.

I voted for Singh in the last election wipe-out. Now that the NDP has all but ceased to exist (7 seats) I'm re-evaluating where to park my vote. Green?! I suppose things can change between now and 2029.

Way too early and far too many variables we can't even see yet. NDP could very well cease to exist and that implosion will cause a rift in the liberal party but in a time of crisis that could still be abated with the rally to the flag effect while the country is still under threat. There is a possibility that the greens and NDP do a shotgun wedding and merge but they are like oil and water at this point. Till the NDP has a leadership review and pp solidifies his control of the the right everything is up for grabs.

The way Carney is going, if they signed up Kinew to lead I would be behind that 100%.

Unless Carney is playing 3D chess here.

I like Kinew. He was elected in 23 so I suspect he'll stay on. The Federal NDP is dead in the water. I found it quite demoralizing how Canada completely rejected the NDP. I suspect that vote was partly fueled by fear and nationalistic pride (rallying around the new PM).

I have no read on Carney. I think he's a brilliant economist, but, who knows what is the best way to deal with the orange stain?! I wish our PM well. Trump is a lunatic.

Kinew and Eby have both been doing S tier work in this maelstrom of madness. Can't see either going to run federal but they are great templates.

I didn't vote for Singh, I voted for our local NDP candidate that did a fine job last few years. Cullen was the MP before him but went provincial.
Unforunately we ended up with a Tory who instantly gave a speech about how 'weak' Canada was and can rot in his constituency office AFAIC.

I know Cullen, he's a plain talker a la Jack Layton that can ditch the showmanship and talk common sense into voters.

I'm not a fan of Cullen. If he becomes the leader I won't vote NDP.
