Triage is about stabilizing the patent, not making them whole. This is an emergency and ad hoc, ergo not the final or perfect solution. Policy needs to be reinforced by empirical data and that can only happen with time and political will. The left understands this and wants to read up on the data to make informed policy, the right wants to deny the existence of reality as dead men tell no tales.

Here is an example of the government working as intended. The program is designed to do the most amount of good to the most amount of people for the least amount of dollars. Therefore the most expensive and newest (least tested) are the LAST resort and the cheap, tried and true are the 1st options. Acting as a bulwark to market forces and maintaining basic services in an expedient manor. But if the right was to use it it would be either scrapped to be labeled as a 'death panel'.

Show me the motivation and I will show you the outcome.

I agree! It's a sad state of affairs when addicts/alcoholics needlessly die. It's the reality of life in Canada right now.

Regulatory capture can still happen. In the same way Boeing was the standard for air safety world wide and literally rewrote the rules so they could fly their MAX even when it was unfit to fly. With drugs it was the Sacklers and OxyContin. It did kill pain and it was marketed so well in the US that the FDA regulations were warped around it. It was available here in Canada as well and the provinces did cover it provided it was a special authority(pre-approval) but when cut off the bodies started to stack up.

My point is that the focus of the industry is always profit and the focus of the government should be on the welfare of the citizens but that focus can get hijacked if there is no political will to anchor it and the abdicate regulatory oversight to the industry. It is only when the bodies stack up is there reform.

Well they just posted the other day that overdose deaths in BC are down by 9%.
I'm quite certain that political threats to re-criminalize users wasn't the cause of that.

Yes, I heard that! Welcome news that there are fewer deaths. It's trending in the right direction.
