That’s exactly the amount the authorities were willing to pay, according to government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani, in order to “preserve household purchasing power, curb inflation, and ensure food security.”
It sounds like mockery. The minimum monthly expenses for one person in Iran exceed $200.
Against the backdrop of hyperinflation — with 1 dollar worth about 1.47 million rials — a handout of $7 looks like an open admission of how completely detached the regime is from reality.
And most importantly, people are not taking to the streets only because of the economy.
They are protesting against repression, torture, executions, and the lawless violence associated with the unelected ayatollah.
