He projects what he says. He wills his lies to become reality. That's why it is so dangerous when he says Canada should be a state. He doesn't have a plan and his sycophants won't go off script without his approval but he will bang that drum of war so loud as to make conspicuous to those who don't at least attempt to look like they are in step. Just like sieg heiling, at 1st the public saw it as a lark and a jest but then it becomes compulsory or you face reprisals from the mob.

And Trump NEEDS to beat that drum loud to drown out the voices of dissent that are congregating in his own party. He will call them fringe and try to exorcise them from his movement but to do so will be to cut his nose to spite his face. His enemy is his own maga movement and like Frankenstein's monster it will turn on its master to preserve itself.
