Strategic Investments: The Prime Minister announces major commitments, including over $14 billion for Canadian companies in strategic sectors (1:38) and the largest venture capital fund in Canadian history, the Radical Breakouts Fund ($4 billion), to support AI companies (1:46). Additionally, Bell Canada and the government of Saskatchewan are investing over $50 billion in a massive AI infrastructure hub (2:07).
Economic Measures: To boost competitiveness, the government is introducing the productivity mega-deduction, which allows businesses to write off a wider range of investments immediately (4:43). The government intends to make immediate expensing permanent to help businesses recover costs faster (5:07).
Infrastructure & Efficiency: The government is focusing on accelerating nation-building projects through the Major Project Office and a new Build Canada Strong Act, with a simple standard of "one project, one review, one year" (5:55).
Airport Management: The Prime Minister discusses plans to transition toward arrangements where private operators manage airports for several decades, while the government retains the underlying assets (13:00). Proceeds from this process are intended to be reinvested in regional airports, transportation infrastructure, and national broadband (14:10).
Trade & Partnerships: Addressing questions about trade, the Prime Minister emphasizes the potential for a mutually beneficial deal with the United States (18:56) and discusses strengthening economic and security alliances with the European Union (24:06).

Canada plans to build a sovereign Internet backbone and end its dependence on U.S.-based corporations.

This is an essential infrastructure project for Canada. It’s as vital today as founding the CBC was in the 1930s and building the transcontinental railroad was in the 1880s.

Canada's 4 largest airports to be opened up to private investment, Carney says

Transport Canada keeps regulatory control — safety, security, fees oversight, and standards remain public.

Ownership stays public. Ottawa keeps the land and assets; private capital takes over operations and growth. Carney framed it as "selling a concession, not privatizing the airport" [Cp24].
Why: to free up federal spending on airports and redirect it toward regional airports and local infrastructure, while bringing in expertise Canadian pension funds already exercise abroad [Cp24][Travelweek][X].
Consultations begin "in the coming weeks"; security standards stay with regulators [Cp24].
Pushback: labour groups oppose the move, and B.C. Premier David Eby is open to the discussion but wants specifics, especially on regional airports [Cp24].
Trudeau's government studied privatizing eight airports but backed off amid mixed stakeholder feedback [Cp24]. The announcement is part of Carney's broader push to court $1 trillion in investment over five years, though airports weren't in the summit's 160-project deal book [Cp24].

The Productivity Mega Deduction (01:42-04:06): Canada is slashing its marginal effective tax rate (METR) for new corporate investments from 13% to 6.4% through a generous expensing policy, allowing companies to deduct approximately 65% of investment costs in the first year.
Airport Operating Concessions (04:06-05:48): The government plans to concession the operations of four major airports—Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, and Vancouver—to private management to unlock capital for recycling into national infrastructure, such as regional transit and a sovereign broadband backbone.
Build Canada Strong Act (05:48-07:13): A regulatory "sledgehammer" policy of "One Project, One Review, One Year" aims to end the years-long bureaucratic delays that have historically hindered major energy and infrastructure projects.
The Canada Strong Fund (07:13-09:45): Modeled after the Norwegian sovereign wealth fund approach, this fund will allow the Canadian public to take equity stakes in nation-building projects rather than just providing traditional corporate subsidies.
Future/Strategic Outlook:

The video explains that these policies are designed as a defensive and offensive measure to avoid "Dutch Disease"—where a resource-heavy economy sees its currency value spike, killing off other sectors—by aggressively channeling resource wealth into high-tech manufacturing and infrastructure (10:23-12:11).

Economist Jim Stanford on the new Productivity Mega Deduction: "Frankly, it's a better way to try and encourage investment than an across-the-board corporate tax cut. A corporate tax cut, the company may or may not take the money they save and reinvest it. In this case, though, you have to pay to play. If you're not investing in new capital in Canada, then the deduction is worthless."

^^ This is why the con argument of tax cuts and austerity is a dead end.

CETA Ratification: Carney is pressing 10 EU holdout countries, including France, Italy, and Poland, to finalize the ratification of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (1:30 - 2:06).
Associate Membership Path: Rather than seeking full EU membership—which is not feasible under current treaties—Canada is pursuing an "associate" framework that allows for sector-by-sector integration in areas like defence, energy, critical minerals, and artificial intelligence (6:02 - 7:28).
SAFE Defence Initiative: Canada has become the first non-European country admitted to the Security Action for Europe (SAFE) initiative, granting access to a significant joint procurement pool intended to boost Canadian industry and job creation (7:57 - 9:16).
Geopolitical Symbolism: The mission includes a historic visit by Carney to Saint-Pierre and Miquelon to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron, emphasizing a strengthening transatlantic bond (11:05 - 11:28).
The video also addresses U.S. trade relations, noting that recent U.S. tariffs on 110 Canadian goods were met with exemptions for essential items like salt and cement, which the hosts interpret as evidence of Canada's economic leverage and the necessity of finding alternative partners like the EU (10:28 - 10:58).

That pic of Trump boarding air force one with toilet paper on his shoe is going to be updated with Greer chasing after him for the scrap cuz it's worth more than gold now.

Investment Climate: Harper, as the board chair of the Alberta Investment Management Corporation (Aimco), notes that while they are global investors, they see significant opportunities in Canada, with over 40% of their investments located domestically (1:36 - 2:09).
Economic Sovereignty & US Relations: Harper addresses the current strained trade relationship with the United States. He describes the move toward "diminished reliance" on the US as a necessary step to maintain Canadian sovereignty, despite acknowledging the difficult costs involved (2:23 - 3:54).
Energy Superpower Potential: Harper argues that Canada should re-establish itself as an energy superpower (7:30 - 8:50). He emphasizes the need for:
Regulatory Reform: Streamlining project approvals to provide investor certainty (9:20 - 10:12).
Resource Development: Utilizing Canada's massive reserves of oil, natural gas, hydroelectricity, and uranium (7:47 - 8:35).
National Prosperity: Using energy not just for export, but to drive domestic reindustrialization and technological innovation (11:57 - 12:17).
Future Outlook: Harper praises the federal government's initiative in hosting the summit and expresses his hope that it becomes a regular, collaborative event to build trusted, long-term commercial partnerships (12:18 - 14:00).

Former prime minister Stephen Harper speaks at Canada Investment Summit – September 15, 2026

Statesmanlike Speech: The panel notes that Harper's speech was surprisingly unifying, as he endorsed current Prime Minister Mark Carney's economic strategy, including trade diversification and efforts to streamline regulatory processes (1:45-2:45).
Impact on Conservatives: Several panelists, including Laura Stone and Kathleen Monk, suggest that this show of unity between Harper and Carney potentially "blunts" the opposition's ability, specifically Pierre Poilievre's, to criticize the current government's economic agenda (2:32-5:15).
Airport Privatization: The government's announcement to explore the privatization of Canada's four largest airports is a major point of contention. While it was presented as a way to "recycle assets" and invest in regional connectivity (7:14-8:45), the panel highlights significant public skepticism, comparing it to past unpopular privatization projects like Ontario's 407 Highway (13:15-14:15).
Political Capital: The discussion concludes with views on Prime Minister Carney's use of political capital, with some panelists arguing it should be directed toward more pressing issues like the healthcare, housing, or affordability crises rather than controversial privatization plans (12:38-15:20).

This is what a political tsunami looks like. Hope pp has his waterwings!
