TLDR The liberals are like the Romans in that they never accepted defeat and stole/adapted ideas and platforms of their opponents till they could force an advantage. Victory at any cost. Ruthless political machine that gets results. Can change their spots on a dime if they deem their political survival depended upon it. No other poetical party currently has that savvy.

That's the operative word. If it's a good policy, use it. Works far better than 3 word slogans and sticking to ideology.
$10 says if China or Russia came up with a cure for cancer, the USA would refuse to even try it.
