Years ago my uncle, an Italian immigrant from around 1960 would constantly berate the rest of us.
"You live in the best country on Earth and all you people do is complain about it."
It took until my 40s after I'd travelled this country and experienced enough of it to understand fully. Although I still complain where I live is a shithole, it would take a crowbar to get me to move. I see the lack of services as opportunities people are missing out on and despise the ustter refusal of people to leave urban centres as foolishness. How anyone on Vancouver Island could take things for granted is beyond me, I would've loved to have been able to stay posted there.

My wife doesn't need to be reminded that being in Canada is a miracle. She was born here but ended up in Egypt for a spell and got out during the fall of Mubarak with the help of the Canadian embassy.
