Hatley Castle to be offered to Royal Roads University under proposed treaty
So let me get this straight:
Royal Roads University has been leasing Hatley Castle from the federal government for $1 per year for decades.
Now, the government - based on zero legal obligation whatsoever - is transferring Hatley Park (the castle and all of the park’s beautiful public trails & gardens) away from the public, to a 600-member First Nation that already has a settled treaty.
The First Nation plans to sell the castle & a portion of the lands that it just obtained *for free* back to taxpayer-subsidized Royal Roads for millions of dollars…
…and the public is supposed to think this is a great idea?
