CANADIAN ARMED FORCES: Broken Election Promises

Paul Hellyer gets a lot of flack for the consolidation of the CAF under his watch. Truth is it had to be done as we had a bloated military post ww2 that was three different armies competing with each other for resources like little fiefdoms and we had an aircraft carrier that we could not afford or had a viable mandate with. So cuts had to happen and the culture was resistant to change but the money had run out. The cuts hurt and mistakes were made but the operation was a success. Since then it's been a hot potato between the liberals and the cons with NEITHER wanting to spend on anything unless they absolutely had to and even then they would defer to the next government rather than back a serious white paper.
Now the the nation itself is in peril a renewed focus on the CAF is at hand. Yes, the liberals are putting forth the same outline they have before but this time the threat is real and the need is dire. A national rebuilding effort on par with that of the building of the tran-canada highway needs to be undertaken now and the political will is here as it is the mandate that the liberals have ran on in the current election.
