Nova Scotia’s ambitious ‘Wind West’ offshore energy plan wins support with conditions

Two leading environmental groups are giving a thumbs up to Nova Scotia’s ambitious plan to dramatically expand its fledgling offshore wind energy industry.
On Monday, Premier Tim Houston said the province’s plan to license enough offshore wind farms to produce five megawatts of electricity would be increased eightfold to 40 megawatts, well beyond the 2.4 megawatts Nova Scotia needs. He called on Ottawa to help cover the costs of his new Wind West project, saying the excess electricity could be used to supply 27 per cent of Canada’s total demand.

A good use of resources.

Canada is so far behind in wind power usage, it is embarrassing.
I travelled to Europe a lot and saw entire towns a villages electrical needs supplied by windmills (Germany and England)
Scandinavian countries have been using wind generated power for decades.
Time to catch up and yes, this is a great use of national funds.

We should cover every parking lot and roof with solar. There are also rooftop and roof peak wind installations. Very cool!

Condition #2" No chopping up whales.

If you did a little research, you would find out solar is not as efficient and reliable as wind power.
As I said, Scandinavian countries and England and Germany have a lot of windmills as they researched and picked the best solution

I've done plenty of research, and where I live we have more sunny days per year than windy, and solar is easier to install in currently underutilized spaces. Scandinavian countries also have easy access to ocean, and I'm in the middle of the Canadian Prairies. Not much ocean here. Turbines are also not a good idea in the migratory path of so many birds that go to and from the Arctic seasonally. So therefore solar is the nest solution for my location, which I researched years ago.

And the way to add more solar without clearing more land is to use land that currently isn't covered with solar, like parking lots and roofs.

Never seen the speed they rotate at?
Makes me remember an old ad: Over, under, around and through... birds aren't that dumb.
Well turkeys are, but they can't fly.

The usual wind doesn't blow, sun don't shine for 24 hour whine is used by the stunned that never heard of storage. That round 2032 thing on my motherboard must be some kind of candy treat.... uhhhh...

They aren't that dumb, but they don't predict very well because many dead birds are found at the base of wind turbines. Not nearly as many as are killed by housecats, and painting the blades half and half contrasting colours reduces that. Using other types of wind power can also reduce that further. Just big turbines are the most cost efficient.

But living somewhere that gets more sun than wind means solar will always produce more power than wind turbines in this area.
