A lot of legal forums are outraged. We are not a state that requires you to retreat from your home rather than defend it.

I think the Crown simply wants all violence to stop, like wishing will do something. Someone breaks into my home, I will not retreat.

When the state loses the monopoly on violence its grasp on power is feeble. Endorsing vigilante justice is a spark that can quickly turn into a fire as far as the rule of law is concerned.

This can easily be abused to sanction murder. All you have to do is lure a victim into the residence and then claim you were attacked. It's why the law is there with the litmus of 'reasonable' as you just can't beat someone to death. The downside is we end up with repeat offenders and the system does have a problem with recidivism but that is a problem with the courts not having proper staffing levels as the provinces refuse to fund courts. It's also why we have cases thrown out for not being charged in time and where do you think these people go? Back on the streets.
