The government is also promising to expand a union training program that supports apprenticeships in the trades

They've been for all practically unenforceable, at least here in BC.
Had people do it to me, I've done it myself. But I outright refused to sign such a document, advised them to ask their own lawyer about the odds of enforcing one and they all backed down.
MOF when I sold the last business, I just told my best customers my new phone number and I was now working from home. Didn't want my "stupid" website or company name, so I just changed the number there too. Told the customers that were annoying, the late payers and the Karens nothing at all. The new outfit was more than welcome to those.
I still see ones who tell me they went to the store and it was all shut down. Missed out on the $50 I could've earned from then in the last 12 fucking years. Sadly I truly expect they'll call me again when I'm 96 asking how to press CTRL-ALT-DEL

Non competition agreements might seem fair to some people, but denying people the use of their sill and knowledge is far worse.

I do know of a case where someone designed a device, while being paid to design something similar, in the office of that employer then quit and opened their own company to sell the device. He's made millions, the company he worked for was advised the legal cost to fight wasn't financially advisable as a favourable outcome wasn't even close to 50-50.
- They hired a kid away from me that recoded their device w Linux from DOS and showed them how to use it on a cheap SBC rather than a computer. Then let him go when he griped how they got millions from his work and he got only $25 an hour. That's 2 examples of "good business" in the business world. You'd never agree unless you lived in it too!

I know the owner well and haven't told him how he could cut his build cost to $7 from $65 but he hasn't ever done me any favours.
