Migration flows to Europe have fallen significantly, — The Times.

The number of illegal crossings of the Mediterranean and the Balkan route is falling due to border closures and the fall of the Assad regime in Syria.

Syrians and Afghans, who previously arrived in large numbers, are now returning home. In the first 11 months of 2025, the flow through the Balkans fell by 43% (after a 78% drop last year).

According to Frontex, two-thirds of this year's decrease is due to the absence of Syrians. The downward trend is manageable, but vigilance is not worth losing. Experts predict that the next wave of migration may come from West Africa (Mali, Burkina Faso), where the threat from jihadists is growing.
