B.C. Conservative interim leader removes Richmond Centre MLA from caucus

Post by Dr Strangelove »

- Hon Chan, MLA for Richmond Centre, told interim leader Trevor Halford on Wednesday that he is facing serious criminal charges.
- Halford immediately removed him from the B.C. Conservative caucus, saying the party had no prior knowledge of the allegations.

The charges
According to the B.C. Prosecution Service, Chan has been charged with:
- Assault
- Assault by choking
- Uttering threats
The alleged incident occurred January 12, 2024, in Richmond. A special prosecutor (Andi MacKay KC) was appointed in 2025 due to Chan’s status as an elected official.
His first court appearance is scheduled for April 22 in Richmond Provincial Court.

Halford emphasized:
- The party takes domestic violence allegations seriously.
- Chan is still entitled to the presumption of innocence and due process.
It can be dangerous to believe things just because you want them to be true. - Sagan

The victorious Tory that won our riding off the NDP in the federal election has not graced our town with his presence since.
The Provincial party is as much a motley gathering of whining populist ingrates as the federal wing. Prrot what the loudest complainers croak and offer nothing else.
