The West Has Already Lost the Drone War. It Just Hasn’t Noticed Yet.

Here is something that should ruin your Monday. A Ukrainian AI drone engineer has gone on record to explain, calmly and with considerable evidence, that Western military planning is not behind the times. It is not lagging. It is not in need of reform. It is dead. Obsolete. A relic propped up by expensive acronyms and men in uniforms who still think the tank is the apex predator of land warfare.

Yaroslav Azhnyuk, founder of AI drone company The Fourth Law, has done the maths. FPV drones now account for somewhere between 70 and 80 percent of frontline casualties in Ukraine. Not artillery. Not missiles. Not the armoured columns that NATO has spent forty years and several fortunes preparing to counter. Small, cheap, autonomous flying machines that cost about as much as a decent restaurant dinner and kill with the precision of a surgeon.

But here is where it gets genuinely terrifying. China can produce four billion FPV drones per year. Ukraine, a country that has been at war for three years and is building faster than anyone in the West, manages four million. That is the kind of number that makes you want to lie down on the floor and stare at the ceiling for a while.

The West is not losing the AI arms race because it lacks the technology. It is losing because it is still arguing about procurement frameworks while the future arrives, uninvited, at four hundred kilometres per hour with a shaped charge attached.

Germany and several other key European countries have officially decided to move away from their older missile systems and certain American weapons platforms. Instead, they are preparing to massively expand purchases of Ukrainian-made missiles.

They are gradually shifting away from aging stockpiles and U.S. systems in favor of Ukrainian developments — particularly modern cruise missiles and long-range strike systems.

Zelensky personally gave the green light for technology transfers and weapons exports. He reportedly told European partners directly:

“We are ready to make Europe safer. If our missiles can help you defend yourselves — we are ready to give you that opportunity.”

Europe has finally realized that American weapons are effective, but Ukrainian weapons have already been tested in a real war against Russia. Ukrainian missile systems have demonstrated high effectiveness, strong adaptability, and lower battlefield costs. In addition, European countries want to reduce their dependence on the United States and develop a stronger European defense industry together with Ukraine.

Ukraine is becoming Europe’s new missile hub.

The country is receiving massive contracts, technological development, and growing strategic influence.

Europe is effectively acknowledging that in this war, some of the most battle-proven weapons are Ukrainian.

Ukraine has battle tested weapons. The US can't guarantee delivery, and if you sign a contract they may take money from other agreements to keep you paying for weapons. The US is unreliable.

Ukraine weapons are better on all counts.

Drone Attacks on Moscow: Ukraine successfully struck the Moscow refinery, Sheremetyevo International Airport, and a critical fuel pumping station in Zelenograd. Despite Russia claiming to have shot down over 1,000 drones, the sheer scale and reach of these attacks have brought the reality of the war directly to the Russian capital (0:58 - 3:15).
Impact on Russian Morale & Infrastructure: The video highlights that these strikes are causing widespread alarm among Russian civilians, many of whom are experiencing the impact of the war firsthand for the first time (3:17 - 4:27, 8:16 - 10:45). This has shattered Kremlin narratives of an inevitable victory (7:57 - 8:15).
Russian Economic Strain: Ukraine claims to have obtained intelligence regarding Russian war damage, noting that even minor oil companies are being forced to shut down hundreds of wells due to the degradation of their logistics and infrastructure (6:02 - 7:26, 22:20 - 23:01).
Military Innovation: The video covers Ukraine's continued use of Firepoint drones to target Russian naval assets in the Caspian Sea and air defense systems in occupied territories, along with the development of new, domestically produced glide bombs (11:49 - 14:24, 15:39 - 16:30).
Geopolitical & Domestic Context: The segment explores Russia's attempts to recruit soldiers via Transnistria (23:02 - 25:07), ongoing tensions regarding Iran and Trump's administration (25:08 - 27:51), and reports of Cuba acquiring military drones (27:52 - 28:43).
Final Reflections: Jake Broe touches upon Trump's financial disclosures (28:56 - 30:20), the ongoing prisoner exchange logistics (31:00 - 31:23), and concludes with a poignant segment honoring victims of historical atrocities from the Stalinist era (31:24 - 32:45).

Ukrainian specialists have created the first effective Ukrainian guided glide bombs (KABs), which have successfully passed all tests and are now ready for mass deployment.

Incredibly, in just 1.5 years, Ukrainian engineers developed a completely original guided aerial bomb from scratch. This is not a copy of Western or Soviet designs, but a unique Ukrainian-made system created specifically for the realities of modern warfare.

The new KAB is designed to strike fortified positions, command posts, and other targets dozens of kilometers behind the front line — possibly even farther after launch. Most specifications remain classified, but it is known that the warhead weighs 250 kilograms

Having our own long-range strike systems is critically important. It means relying less on imports and less on the political mood of certain partners.

Very good news. The swamps will definitely appreciate it

Russians withdrew 288 billion rubles from fixed‑term deposits in March — the first monthly outflow since October 2022, when the mobilization panic triggered a run on banks.

Total household funds in banks grew only 0.3%, and only because current accounts increased; term deposits shrank. Long‑term deposits (maturities >1 year) saw the sharpest drop.

How big is the shift?
Even with the withdrawals, Russians still keep most of their wealth in deposits:

46.9 trillion rubles in fixed‑term deposits

67.4 trillion rubles total household bank holdings (as of April 1)

But new money is no longer flowing in. In 2025, 15.5% of savings‑market growth came from interest accrual alone, while net new inflows contributed just 0.4% — essentially stagnation.
