Ukraine Is Crippling Russia’s Oil Industry

According to Bloomberg, Ukraine’s long-range strikes have pushed Russia’s oil refining volumes to their lowest level since 2005.

Over the past 100 days alone, Ukraine has damaged 24 of russia’s 34 major oil refineries and struck fuel production facilities at least 50 times. Since the beginning of July, russia’s average crude oil processing has fallen to just 3.91 million barrels per day - more than 1.4 million barrels per day below last year’s average.

According to Ukraine’s General Staff, since August 2025, Ukrainian strikes have inflicted approximately $13.5 billion in losses on russia’s oil industry and have knocked out 42.74% of the country’s total oil refining capacity.

Oil exports are the financial lifeblood of russia’s war machine. Every refinery damaged means less fuel for the military, lower export revenues, and fewer resources available to finance the invasion of Ukraine. This is one of the most strategically significant campaigns of the war - and its effects are becoming increasingly visible.

Satellite Confirmation: Satellite imagery provided by Ukraine shows the vessel with a significant hole in its side, effectively leaving it destroyed and resting on the shallow harbor floor, described jokingly by the creator as a "promoted submarine" (0:10 - 0:37).
Retaliation for 2018: The Izumrud was one of the vessels involved in the 2018 Kerch Strait incident, where it participated in the ramming and firing upon Ukrainian naval vessels. The successful strike is characterized as "long overdue karma" for its role in that event (0:43 - 1:07).
Vessel Capabilities: While not technically part of the Black Sea Fleet—they are operated by the Coast Guard—these Rubin-class boats are well-armed with a 30mm gun, Igla MANPADS, and potentially Kh-35 cruise missiles. This marks the first time one of these specific vessels has been completely sunk, following previous damage to others by Ukrainian drones (1:09 - 1:43).
Strategic Impact: The ship was primarily tasked with patrolling the Black Sea and protecting the Kerch Bridge from drone attacks. With its destruction, it is effectively serving as an artificial reef (1:50 - 2:13).

On November 25, 2018, Ukrainian Navy vessels Berdyansk, Nikopol and the tug Yany Kapu were making a planned passage from Odesa to Mariupol through the Kerch Strait.

Russia blocked the route under the Kerch Bridge with a cargo ship, rammed Yany Kapu with the FSB patrol ship Don, then pursued the Ukrainian group as it turned back.

Russian forces opened fire on Berdyansk, wounded 6 Ukrainian sailors and captured all three vessels with 24 crew members.

FSB patrol ship Izumrud was part of that attack. It took direct part in the pursuit and opened fire on Berdyansk. Now Izumrud is feeding fish at the bottom of the Black Sea.

🎥 Izumrud can be seen on this video filmed from the Russian FSB patrol ship Don

Staggering Casualties: According to the Ukrainian Defense Minister, Russia suffered approximately 28,000 soldiers killed or seriously wounded in June (1:22). For perspective, the narrator compares this to the approximately 24,000–25,000 total U.S. casualties sustained over the entire 20-year war in Afghanistan (1:30).
Tactical Shift & Drone Warfare: Ukraine is simultaneously conducting a deep strike campaign against Russian logistics, refineries, and supply lines while maintaining high-intensity drone operations (0:14). One top-performing unit, the SBU Alpha unit, reportedly neutralized over 5,500 Russian soldiers in June alone (5:09).
Russian Mobilization Rumors: Due to the high casualty rate and the Kremlin's recent admission that the "Special Military Operation" has evolved into a "war," there is growing speculation among Russian mil-bloggers regarding a new wave of mobilization planned for late September or early October (6:15 - 7:48).
Territorial Analysis: Both Ukrainian (Deep State) and Russian sources indicate that Russian forces made minimal territorial gains in June—estimates range from 84 to 112 square kilometers (10:28). The narrator notes this is one of the slowest rates of advance since June 2024, essentially costing roughly 250 Russian casualties per square kilometer (11:15).
Fundraiser Update
The video concludes with an update on the Car4Ukraine fundraiser, noting the group is close to hitting its €97,000 goal for their summer campaign, which provides critical vehicles for Ukrainian units (12:28 - 13:18).

Russia will bear the costs for the "Power of Siberia 2" gas pipeline itself and supply gas to China at domestic prices. These are the very terms the Chinese side presented to the Russian delegation during negotiations in May, according to the *Wall Street Journal*.

Experts cited by the newspaper believe China intends to stall on the pipeline issue—effectively keeping Russia on the hook—until its position has deteriorated to the point where it is forced to accept any terms offered.

"Putin’s war in Ukraine has not only dragged Russia into a quagmire but also handed Xi all the leverage needed to transform a relationship that was once a contest between near-equals into one of Chinese dominance across virtually every sphere," the *WSJ* concludes.

Energy Infrastructure Strikes: Ukraine launched successful drone strikes on multiple oil facilities, including the 10th largest refinery in Russia (the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat refinery in Bashkortostan) and the Afipsky refinery in Krasnodar Krai (0:00 - 6:00).
Naval Losses: Ukraine's unmanned systems continue to dominate the Black and Azov Seas, reportedly sinking an FSB border guard ship and disabling multiple other vessels, with the Azov Sea effectively becoming inaccessible to Russian shipping (8:40 - 12:20).
Economic Collapse:
Russia’s oil refining output has dropped to its lowest levels since the 1990s (13:00 - 14:30).
China has significantly reduced its purchases of Russian oil (15:20 - 16:10).
Farmers are facing a severe agricultural crisis due to a lack of diesel, threatening grain harvests (16:30 - 18:30).
Domestic Chaos: Russian consumers are experiencing major price hikes, layoffs in the food industry, and the shutdown of public transportation in various regions due to fuel shortages (19:40 - 24:40).
Government Response & Propaganda:
Vladimir Putin signed a decree classifying data related to aviation fuel (25:40 - 27:00).
The Kremlin is attempting to counter public dissatisfaction by staging propaganda videos of fully stocked gas stations, even as citizens report widespread shortages (27:10 - 29:10).
Access to Google, Apple, and other major Western digital services has been blocked within Russia (29:20 - 30:00).
Geopolitical Shifts: There are reports that China is quietly preparing for a potential post-Putin transition, while the United States moves toward passing a new, significant sanctions package (35:20 - 38:50).

Day One Results: On the first day of operations in the Black Sea, Ukraine reportedly hit 20 Russian vessels, including 17 oil tankers, two large LNG tankers, and one tugboat (0:22-0:34).
Tactical Shift: Unlike previous strikes that primarily targeted superstructures, recent footage shows drones specifically targeting the storage areas of ships, likely in an attempt to detonate the fuel and oil onboard (1:09-1:26).
Strategic Impact: The creator notes that Ukraine has effectively established a blockade of the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea using drones, leaving Russia seemingly unable to counter these persistent attacks (2:04-2:11).
Future Outlook: The video speculates that these strikes may force the Russian Black Sea Fleet to respond, potentially bringing naval vessels into the line of fire (1:38-1:59).

The Attack: The footage shows the drone stalking the helicopter, eventually maneuvering above it and diving to strike the tail boom, between the main and tail rotors (0:10–0:31).
Tactical Context: The creator notes that Mi-28 helicopters are often utilized by Russia for "anti-drone" patrols to intercept Ukrainian UAVs. In this instance, the helicopter was likely on such a mission when it was engaged (1:00–1:14).
Drone Capability: Initially suspected to be a standard FPV (First Person View) drone, the creator argues it was likely a more specialized, mid-range strike drone, given that the engagement occurred over 100 km from the border (1:20–1:40).
Fleet Impact: While visual confirmation of the crash is not provided in the video due to the lack of a spotter drone, the creator emphasizes that even if official Russian fleet numbers (around 113) are cited, they often include non-airworthy aircraft; regardless of the total, the Russian inventory has lost one unit (1:34–2:08).
Independent reporting confirms that Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces reported the strike on July 15, 2026, marking a significant event in the ongoing drone warfare near the border region.

The decision to remove
@FedorovMykhailo
as Defence Minister is difficult to describe politely.

For once, Ukraine had a defence minister whose reforms were visibly moving in the direction the military had been asking for years and a real attempt to make soldiers’ voices reach the top.

You do not remove that kind of momentum in the middle of a war unless you have an exceptionally good reason. So far, I do not see one.

This looks like a textbook self-inflicted wound: unpopular with the public, badly understood by the military, and damaging to changes that were just starting to move in the right direction.

It takes real talent to make a decision this senseless.

The Trigger: The crisis escalated on May 26, 2026, when Ukrainian President Vodzoinski signed a decree naming an elite military unit the "Heroes of the UPA" (4:38 - 5:15).
Differing Perspectives:
Ukraine's View: The UPA is celebrated as a symbol of the struggle for national independence and resistance against Soviet and Russian imperialism (6:03 - 6:18).
Poland's View: The UPA is associated with the Volhynia and Eastern Galicia massacres (1943–1945), a genocide where approximately 100,000 Polish civilians were murdered (1:13 - 1:24, 6:18 - 7:07).
Escalation of Tensions
Following the decree, Poland stripped the Ukrainian President of the Order of the White Eagle, which prompted other Ukrainian officials to return their Polish decorations in protest (8:24 - 9:10).
Polish political leaders across the spectrum have declared that they will not support Ukraine's accession to the European Union until Kyiv reckons with this painful historical legacy (9:10 - 9:37).
President Vodzoinski has maintained a firm stance, stating that no one will dictate which heroes Ukraine honors (10:33 - 10:45).
Historical Context and Potential Path Forward
Interwar Grievances: The video explains that tensions have historical roots going back to the Second Polish Republic, where policies toward the Ukrainian minority were often assimilationist and discriminatory, fostering resentment that radicalized parts of the Ukrainian underground (32:03 - 36:11).
The Need for Truth: The narrator emphasizes that Poland is not demanding reparations but rather historical truth, systematic exhumations, and an end to the official state honoring of those responsible for civilian massacres (48:03 - 50:14).
European Perspective: On July 8, 2026, the European Parliament adopted a resolution expressing regret over the naming of the unit, signaling that this historical dispute could complicate Ukraine's path to the EU (54:39 - 55:20).
While both sides agree that Russia benefits from this conflict, the video concludes that the era of unquestioned solidarity between the two nations has been severely strained, and reconciliation will require both countries to engage in a difficult and honest reckoning with their shared past (53:20 - 54:13, 57:51 - 58:26).
