My fears come from two things
1 - Putin is the first Russian leader not to personally experience the devastation of war.
2 - as another Cold War kid who remembers the whole school running home screaming during the Oct 1962 air raid drills, people are so much dumber now. Who TF knows how to do long division or use a slide rule anymore they can't even make change with a calculator. How many people still think Justin made the Covid rules, not the Health officials? That the govt doesn't actually 'control' house prices, grocery prices and portion sizes or the interest rate. And just look south where almost half are supporting a sex offender, convicted fraudster and self-serving appeaser and are dumb enough to think you have more freedom by taking it away from others might put that morons finger on the largest arsenal in the world.
I mean it, "Idiocracy" was a satire movie, not Scripture to run your life by.
You know that air raid thing I mentioned? That siren pole still stands there, with just a light on it now. But in the late 70s those schoolmates now pushing baby carriages and holding their kids hands thru the neighbourhood would still unconsciously move to the sidewalk on the other side of the street to get away from that f*cking siren.

Putin will push the button only if he sees no other way out. Xi will not tolerate a suicidal regime and if he thought for a moment Putin was going that way he would cut all support and China is the only thing that is going to hold what is left of Russia together after the war is over. Modi may bear hug Putin for the cameras but when the cheap oil dries up he has no other use for him, he certainly isn't going to be buying Russian military equipment unless it is on terms favorable to him. Even North Korea is eating the Russian's lunch for cheap by wholesaling excess artillery shells long past their expiry date for nuclear, submarine and rocket tech at bargain prices.
EVERYONE is walking all over Russia right now and NATO hasn't even stood up production to wartime levels yet. Yes, Ukraine won't be on the offensive for another year but they are now like a porcupine in that Russia Lost "Astronomical" 70,000 Soldiers in May & June. Russia can only field 30K in replacements a month and it's going down. They are getting eviscerated and we may see 1917 redux. Their banks have run out of reserves and their economy is tanking, the sanctions ARE working and the stockpiles of Russian military equipment from WW2 and the cold war have been depleted. I expect the Crimean bridge will be gone this month and with that a total collapse and withdrawal could become a route. It is during this route however Putin could become his most desperate.
