Steve and Rachael are both tight. CBC is run by humans who have opinions and biases.
But people still trust CBC because they are true journalists. If they fuck up, they own it and correct it. CTV usually does, but Global never does. Neither do the Globe, Torstar, or National Post.
CBC is flawed, no doubt. But they are still better than the alternative.

The problem isn't redactions and corrections, which all reasonable organizations do. It's the lying by omission. A LOT of context ends up on the cutting room floor so the conversation over the issues is already skewed before the first line is in print. If you can't even say Palestine in a news report or editorial does Palestine even exist?

I generally like CBC, but, they have a distinct corporate bias, as most news outlets have. Specifically whenever there's a strike they always lead with how much the strike is impacting business owners and the economy. Rarely, if ever, will CBC lead with the primary union concerns. They're corporate sellouts.al_keda wrote: Tue Jul 15, 2025 6:53 pm But people still trust CBC because they are true journalists. If they fuck up, they own it and correct it.

You noticed.....
no one ever does. If they didn't toe the corporate line the righties would scream so loud we'd all be deaf.
Ever noticed the other biases like always quoting the Fraser Institute and the Taxpayer's Federation. Won't even reveal it's actually the Corporate Taxpayers Federation unless there's some wildly populist issue like GST or carbon tax to jump on the bandwagon?
If you ever want to hear the consumer side of things, CBC is the only choice. The rest give you a greenwashed version from corporate or govt press releases. I like to check The Tyee once in a while, but even I find a lot of their stuff swings way too far the other way.

Ditto. I wish we had something like Fair in Canada, Canadaland was shaping up to something like that but Jesse has gone way off the reservation in the last few years but really bad since October 2024. CBC's marketplace is a mainstay but it doesn't get the viewership to get real traction. Open media is ok but it is more of an advocacy group then a consumer watchdog.

She's right, as always. If CBC uses her journalism, they should give her credit.
