We also put far too much authority to oaths that should be bonds as well. Too many swear in bad faith, there need to be a cost extracted to eradicate the posers and puppets. We have been overdependent upon norms not laws.

Many professions make a person swear an oath of competency or such, and it is backed up by law.
Makes sense that the lawmakers are held to such an oath.
