Former Liberal cabinet minister says young people are hesitant to enter politics

Post by Dr Strangelove »

Sergio Marchi says when he asks students in his university course on politics how many of them are interested in a career in public life, he’s surprised if two or three of them raise a hand.

No shit sherlock. What has your generation done to provide a seat at the table? They can't work, save for a future, afford groceries, or pay rent. They can't do it until the boomers release their cold dead hands on the keys. The boomers are killing us all world wide but especially in western nations and we are going from democratic society strait to far right autocracy across the board. Just look at France!

The youth is seriously pissed off at being ignored and exploited for their entire lives and rightly so. They will demand change from necessity and if they are not accommodated they will take it by force and if the far right are the only option to change up the status quo they will support it but will never run for it. To them it's the least bad option. Neoliberalism is dead.

Also, the generation is appalled that if they were to run their lives, now digital, will be open for all to see and judge. WHO WOULD WANt THAT? Then there is the pay. You want them to work on temp wages from the 1970's to be in office? Fuck off!
“Young people aren’t encouraged in Canada to pursue a life in the public sector, and there isn’t an emphasis in high school to understand the full nature of it,” said the 17-year-old Braves. “It has to start in the classroom around how we shape these discussions.”
If anything they are told to actively NOT be political. Don't like genocide? Don't run for office cuz you need to be lock step with maniac policies or you have no future. Voting should start BEFORE they graduate or else they will have no idea why they should. Civic duty isn't spontaions it is invested in and the voting age needs to reflect that value.
It can be dangerous to believe things just because you want them to be true. - Sagan
