BC Eyes Drug Panel Changes After Charleigh Pollock Controversy

Post by Dr Strangelove »

It did not work that way in the Charleigh case. We had two groups of experts fighting it out. One very publicly. One a secret committee within the ministry of health, speaking only through politicians. That doesn’t work.”
No kidding! The optics are horrid no matter what the judgement.

Saw this subject discussed on other sites as how it is proof socialized medicine doesn't work.
However the same sites also concluded that as people who won't use them are still dying, that is proof that safe use policies don't work and even the same conclusion about seat belt laws.

But seeing as how there are going to be more and more super expensive drugs for rare diseases coming online, the issue should be discussed now and decisions based on a consensus of medical experts and politicians not a some pro some con situation.

Peer review by professionals will always trump anecdotal experience by a mob. Sure, there are problems and eternal vigilance is a requirement but you don't dump the baby out with the bathwater because a bunch of morons with pitchforks and torches are upset.

This has all the hallmarks of the bail reform argument. Whereas they want to ignore the charter and the courts and just hang criminals rather than have a justice system. Mobs will always go for simple solutions to complex issues.
